Best coastal destination in world - National Geographic

"Four Canadian areas have been named to National Geographic Traveler's "top rated" category in a list of the world's 99 best coastal destinations--with Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula, pictured, in the No. 1 spot, with 84 of a possible 100 points. The annual scorecard focused on 99 areas, from Antarctica to Tanzania, with a panel of 340 experts doing the ratings. The Avalon was noted for its out port villages, archeological sites, friendly people and significant tourism potential."

“The East Coast Trail begins very humbly in a small hollow surrounded by grassy knolls.  As we followed its gradual climb between a few rocky outcrops, nothing in its modest appearance prepared us for the superb view it was about to give us.  When it came, it took our breath away.  We were suddenly perched on the edge of the continent, between the earth and the sky and the stunning blue of the Atlantic Ocean.”

"We had an absolutely fabulous time in the Yellow House, and are already planning a return trip. My wife in particular liked the book selection, and the East Coast Trail is fantastic.. We are now in Gros Morne, which is breathtaking. All the best, and our thanks to the owners. "

"We returned last evening after vacationing at the Yellow house. We had a lovely time celebrating my sister's 70th birthday. Thank-you for corresponding so often about our queries. It was a cozy, well stocked home with a magnificent view. Thanks again. "

"We had a fantastic time at the "Yellow House". It is really pretty special and the view was fantastic. We saw whale spouts between the two islands from the patio. Mary was wonderful and took good care of us. The weather was wonderful for our boat ride when we went whale watching with O'Briens and we enjoyed lots of fish & chips whenever we could. Thanks again, I am sure we will be back in a year or so. "

"Our vacation was truly a memorable one, and the main focal point of the Newfoundland vacation experience is our stay at the Yellow House in Tors Cove. We found it to be cozy, homey, fully stocked and equipped, and very tastefully furnished and decorated, credit to the owners, Ted Miller and Marcia Saipe. Please convey our sincerest regards to Mary O’Driscoll who welcomed us as family, and made our stay in the Yellow House very singular. She gave us a taste and flavor for the area, the people and culture as no tour guide ever could. "

"I had to let you know what a great time we had at the Yellow House over the weekend. It was much more than we expected – so relaxing and peaceful! What a beautiful place. We will definitely be back!! "

"We had a wonderful time.  Mary was a great greeter and we found the whole experience quite relaxing.  It was exactly what we were looking for!!  We have added the Yellow House to our list of places to recommend to others.

We found that the loft-like upstairs and the unevenness of the floor gave the property a character and made you appreciate that under the surface this was a house that probably has thousands of stories to tell!!! "

"The house is lovely. Clean, charming, comfortable, exceedingly well appointed, and with an amazing view. The cove itself surpasses all its neighbours - hills on each side, but hills and valleys within the cove too, so houses are perched on many different levels. A white church towers over all, and the sea is right there with islands we could see from our windows. A lot of thought and care has gone into making this house a great place to be. Nice furniture, all very comfortable, great rugs. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, I couldn't believe how well with every small appliance you can imagine."

"One of Canada's best kept secrets.  Beautiful scenery, welcoming and friendly people, lots of history, fabulous walking trails and unique migrations.  The Yellow House is a home away from home.

Truly a memorable experience! "
